Surgery can help you regain confidence by making your chest appear flatter and more contoured. Dr. Greenberg combines experience with a sensitive approach to customize your procedure and suit your unique needs.
Candidates for Male Breast Reduction
Male breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and glandular tissue from the chest. Prior to surgery, Dr. Greenberg will help you determine whether you are a good candidate for this surgery. In general, ideal candidates:
- Have firm, elastic skin
- Are over 18 years of age
- Are not obese
- Are not taking anabolic steroids or recreational drugs
- Have excess fat tissue that does not respond to diet, exercise, or medical treatments
- Are self-conscious about their appearance due to gynecomastia
- Do not smoke or use alcohol excessively
To qualify for this procedure, it is imperative that you are at a healthy, stable weight. If you are taking certain medications for anxiety, prostate disorders, or heart conditions, these may be causing enlargement of the breast tissue. If this is the case, Dr. Greenberg may recommend adjusting your dosage prior to performing breast surgery.
Achieve the Physique and Look You Have Always Imagined
It the past, cosmetic surgery procedures were primarily for women. However, with the great advances and opportunities for men of all ages to achieve the physique they have always imagined, more of our patients are seeking male procedures. Dr. Greenberg can help you achieve a tighter abdomen, reduce the fatty pockets on your chest, give you hair transplants, and much more.
Your Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation, Dr. Greenberg will meet with you to discuss the areas you wish to address along with your overall goals for the procedure. He will then assess your overall health and take your medical history to determine whether there is an underlying medical problem that may be causing your gynecomastia. He will also discuss the breast reduction surgery in detail, discussing all possible surgical techniques and sharing patient before and after photos to help you feel comfortable about your decision.
On the Day of Your Surgery
Male breast reduction surgery is generally completed within an hour and a half and will take place at one of our fully accredited and licensed ambulatory surgery centers. After you have been provided with general or local anesthesia, Dr. Greenberg will begin with an incision. He can place the incision under the arm, around the areola, or along the chest wall depending on the extensiveness of your surgery. Generally, the more tissue you would like removed, the larger the incision will be. Using liposuction and excision techniques, Dr. Greenberg will remove excess fat, breast tissue, and skin. Once he has achieved the desired results, he will close the incision and place all necessary bandages.
Ensuring a Healthy Recovery
You should expect one to two weeks of downtime after your surgery. Dr. Greenberg may prescribe medications to make you feel more comfortable and will provide further post-operative instructions. You should be able to begin walking the day of your surgery, but will need to avoid exercise or any other activity that can endanger the chest area for up to a month or more. You may be swollen and bruised and will need to wear a pressure garment for up to several weeks after the procedure, but can begin to see more refined features as these effects subside.
If you are self-conscious about your appearance due to enlarged breast tissue, gynecomastia surgery can help you achieve a flatter, more contoured chest.
What Results Can You Expect?
The final results of your surgery should be noticeable about three months after the procedure. Once your body has fully recovered, you can enjoy a flatter, more contoured chest, and improved self-confidence. To help maintain your results, we advise that you keep a stable weight, as fluctuations in weight could cause excess tissue to return.
Achieve your Goals
If you are self-conscious about your appearance due to enlarged breast tissue, gynecomastia surgery can help you achieve a flatter, more contoured chest. With proper diet and exercise, you can continue to enjoy the results of your surgery for years to come.
